Sustainability and the environment are both values close to our hearts. We decided in 2009 to become a member of the Burren Ecotourism Network (BEN) which was launched in 2011 with the graduation of the founder members.
In the same year, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark was established. All BEN members are audited through a Code of Practice by the Geopark to assure the highest possible standards in ecotourism.
Below you will find all the initiatives and memberships we are proud to be a part of.
When creating a high quality product like Smoked Irish Organic Salmon, it is very important to have the necessary certifications and accreditation to maintain the exacting standard.
The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark’s ultimate aim is to spearhead sustainable tourism that develops and promotes the area as a truly special encounter-rich destination, strengthens the local economy and improves the visitor experience. To achieve this goals, a Code of Practice in Sustainable Tourism was developed for the members of the Burren Ecotourism Network.
We are committed to conserve Energy, reduce Waste generated and Recycle as much as possible of the raw materials that we utilise in the Burren Smokehouse. We are also committed to sustainable tourism and sustainable production and sourcing of food, to care for the environment and to leave as little trace as possible.
The Burren Smokehouse is delighted to participate in the 2023 Brexit Processing Capital Support Scheme which is funded by the Eurpean Union's Brexit Adjustment Reserve Scheme and supported by Bord Iascaigh Mhara. As part of this scheme, the Burren Smokehouse is investing, with support from the scheme, in infrastructure and environmental efficiency which will enhance its digital capability, processing efficiency and reduce its environmental impact.
